PROGRAMS > K-12
K-12 encourages young women to develop an interest in and consider careers in science and technology.
Women & Hi Tech currently participates in GEM-SET, a national program sponsored by the
Women’s Bureau to expand the opportunities for girls in Science, Engineering and Technology
SET). Through a confidential e-mentoring program, girls ask questions and receive answers
from women with diverse backgrounds from all over the country.
How GEM-SET works
- Registered participants (girls ages 13-18) and mentors receive a Daily Digest of all questions
and answers once a day. For safety and privacy, there is no one-on-one interaction.
- The listserv and website are managed by the Center for Research on Women and Gender at the
University of Illinois at Chicago.
- Participants can send questions and responses to the listserv.
- All questions and answers will be reviewed to ensure that they are appropriate and to
remove participant e-mail addresses and last names of the girls before being posted on the Daily Digest.
- Students must have a direct affiliation with a partner organization such as the Women & High Tech or a school.
- Students should refrain from asking questions related to homework assignments in SET.
- Parents or guardian must sign student application form.
